COLLEGE 101

Summer is officially over...at least in Missouri it is. Last Saturday the high was 104, Monday the high was 70. We've been consistently having lows in the 50's. Perfect. I love this weather. I wouldn't mind if it was like this all year round. My friends don't get it. Like today, for example, I was sitting with one of my friends in the cafe at school. I mentioned that the only thing that would make the weather today more perfect is rain. She looked at me like I had 3 heads. It was overcast and 65 degrees. 5 minutes later it started raining. :) Add to that that I finish school at noon today. And I (for the most part) have my homework caught up.

Okay I really do like school. Unlike some people, I actually enjoy learning. Community College is like the meeting place for strange people. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm all for self-expression and stepping outside the box. But there's a line that should never EVER be crossed. That would be the decency line. It's a very fine line, I know, but it's was to avoid crossing it. All you have to do is THINK. Or even just look in a mirror before you walk out the door. I was walking into class today, and there was this girl in front of me. Talk about scarring. There's a trend (I guess..I don't keep up with fashion as much as I used to) right now of wearing tights (thinner than leggings) and like a tunic, or an over sized sweater, or whatever. It's cute, I don't mind it, all I ask is that your top is long enough that it COVERS your butt. Oh. My. Gosh. I would be mortified if I was her. she was wearing black/grey zebra striped tights, a black cami, black cardigan, and 5" black heels. It would've been cute if she was wearing a sweater-dress, or a longer shirt. But instead it just looked trashy.

Anyway, college is awesome. I like all my teachers. Well, except my math teacher. He's kind of older, and it's just hard listening to him talk. He talks really slow, and he makes a lot of careless mistakes. It's just hard to pay attention to him at 7am. My Psych teacher is an atheist so that's been...uhm interesting. Let's just say I can't wait 'til we get to the "ethics in psychology" chapter. I just have a few questions. Other than that, I'd say his class is most interesting. He's style of teaching is very conversational, and he has really good stories. His "real job" is working in a lab at UMSL on rats. The first day of school he basically told us whether or not Salvia is a good anti-depressant, and a week later said that if we have a certain Geno-type it's okay if we smoke pot cause it won't really mess anything up. And every class he manages to fit in some example dealing with rape or prostitution. Oh and he cusses. Really, it's more funny than offensive 'cause no one expects a teacher to cuss. But apparently it happens. Quite often. I guess since the only "college experience" I was exposed to in high school was a Baptist school. Things are slightly different at a public school.

I always new that college is very paper/writing heavy, but I wish I would've taken that more into consideration while I was still in high school. I have no idea how to write a paper. I mean, sure I've written papers before, but they were really more about just doing the paper without being graded on grammar or anything. I have my first paper for Comp I due in about a week, and I'm freaking out slightly. It's a narrative, and the topic can be anything we want. I hadn't even thought about the topic. Well, I have, but I couldn't think of anything. Today in class we had a Brainstorming Circle. I felt like a hippie. We all wrote our topic on a piece of paper then passed it to the next person. Our papers went around the circle and each person gave their feedback. It had to be positive, and our papers were anonymous so no one knew who had which topic. After about ten minutes of just sitting there I finally thought up a topic. As of now I'm going with the transition of moving from a small town to a city of 30,000 people. I might change it, I don't know. I got a lot of good feedback though. Obviously, since it had to be positive anyway. We'll see.

Speaking of papers, I really need to go do that. Or at least start it. I also have an outline due Monday, and a discussion/essay thing due Monday. And a Math test I need to study for. And a Col 101 quiz (actually 5 of them...oops) to take. And a synopsis for French that's due Tuesday. Oh my gosh. Welcome to college, right? Alright well hopefully I'll be back soon. It depends on how much time I have next week. ciao!

p.s. I keep meaning to take my camera with me so I can post pictures ('cause, let's be honest, picture-less blogs are BOOORING!), but at 6:30 in the morning, I'm just trying to remember to bring the right books. I'll work on it. ;) For now I'll leave you with these that I hijacked from Facebook.


---Grrr...nevermind. Apparently the internet gods want me to have a plain, boring, picture-less blog :( sorry folks! Maybe next time I'll try just taking my own photos instead of stealing them ;)
